I had the pleasure of doing a Google hangout recently with the lovely and talented Lynette Davis of AplusD
Media.
Lynette and I are in a Facebook syndication tribe together and we have posted and messaged each other back and forth and Lynette decided it would be a good idea to do a live video call. Since I know nothing about Skype I suggested doing a Google hangout and we did that on Tuesday afternoon.
There's nothing like speaking live and in person to someone you have met online. Even though you can get some insight into a person by their posts and pictures, there is still no substitute for talking to that person live, whether it be by phone or video. There's just something about hearing that person's voice or seeing that person's face that can completely change your opinion of them for better or worse.
I'm happy to say that Lynette is even more friendly and helpful than she is online! We had a great one hour hangout where we talked about our businesses and how we got started, clients we could possibly refer to each other, and some details about our personal lives.
I found out that we both share a love for writing poetry and we both want to self-publish our collections next year. Lynette even shared a website where I could share my poems with other artists and we joked about possibly getting discovered!
The virtual assistant online community is a strong, supportive, and encouraging one and you can make connections you would never have the ability to do offline. Lynette and I now plan to have monthly 'check-in' sessions via Google hangouts to stay in touch; none of this would have been possible without the power of social media.
There are so many ways to connect now with social media so be sure to take advantage of all of them, you never know what partnerships and friendships await you!
