I am in the process of getting my website redone. I
currently have a very plain, sad little site that I put up
when I first started
several months ago and had no clue what I was doing. WordPress was like the
boogeyman to me; I was too afraid to even think about tackling it.
Since that time I have learned a lot about and maintain
several WordPress sites for my clients, so you would think that I would be able
to set up my own right?
WRONG!
Maintaining a site and creating a site are two very
different things and I have a whole new appreciation for those people who do
this on a regular basis. Just going through the process of answering the
website questionnaire gives me a sneak peek into all the things needed and work
involved in putting my new site together. If I am getting hung up on trying to
choose colors and fonts on a piece of paper, what in the world possessed me to
think that I could put a whole website together?!
In my last post I talked about recognizing my limitations,
and going through the process of having my website redone has shown me mine. I
have no desire or patience right now to learn how to create a website from
scratch; I thought I did, but I really don't.
Now I can maintain a site, create content, add pictures and
widgets with the best of them and that's something that I really enjoy; but
building from scratch? I'll leave that to the professionals like Susan Mershon,
The Techie Mentor, who will be handling the job of redesigning my website.
Believe it or not, I'm glad I went through the frustrating
and time consuming process of trying to redo my website on my own. If I didn't,
I would have still been under the delusion that I could handle it myself; I
wouldn't be working with Susan, and I wouldn't have been able to interact with
and build a network of VAs that I will happily recommend to anyone who is
looking for website developers.
Realizing what I can and can't do and more importantly, what
I like and don't like to do has saved me a lot of time, money, and peace of
mind because I won't waste any more of them doing something that I can't stand.
To all you website developers out there, you have my
everlasting respect and devotion!
