Doing What You Love...At What Cost?

It's amazing the effect work can have on your life: doing what you love can make you happy, fill you with lots
of creative energy and keep you moving forward. I'm happy to say that I am finally doing what I love with my virtual assistant business and I have lots of new ideas and plans for 2014; I'm excited about the direction this could take me.

I have goals in place for myself professionally, but my personal life is a bit in flux and I need to take a long, hard look at getting it under control. We all know as business owners that there will be times when our personal life will suffer and this is especially true when you are just starting out; this is the position I find myself in right now.

At the end of November I will be nine months into my business and I freely admit that I have been all consumed with making this work which can cause problems at times. My sweetheart and I went out for for the first time in months last week when we went to the movies, and that was a sloppy second to our New York trip that we were supposed to take earlier this month.

I've become the invisible mom and partner: I disappear upstairs to my office in the morning and don't come downstairs sometimes until late at night! Fortunately for me I don't have a little one to take care of but I still have to cook for my family; I could leave it to them but eating eggs and cereal for every meal would start to get a bit boring. I will admit that they have been extremely supportive and have stepped up in other ways to help out: my partner Brandon has taken over housecleaning duties and our daughter Taja has become an expert at stretching leftovers. I'm blessed to have the support of my family to see me through.

I have to get better at completely turning off work mode and that's hard to do when you're trying to establish or grow your business. I know that things will start to even out to a more reasonable pace for me once I hit my one year mark, but for now the sprint continues!
