Motivated by Pressure

Have you ever noticed that sometimes you do some of your best work under pressure? I find that to be the
case for me sometimes and I'm not quite sure why.

This goes back to when I was in high school and would have a test or exam. I would wait until the day before, sometimes the day of the test to study and would end up acing it. I know in some cases I would put off studying because I didn't like the subject, but in others...

I wonder if I bring this same way of thinking into how I handle my workload at times. There are tasks that I have to do that I absolutely won't do until the last minute but you would never know because they are done so well and look like a lot of time and effort went into them. Then there are tasks that I love that I will purposely give myself plenty of time to do and I will still wait until right before they are due to start working on them.

Could it be that I like challenging myself to see if I can get it done in time or is it that the real creativity doesn't come out until I feel that pressure to get it done? In some cases I feel it is a little of both, and as long as the job gets done and done well, it doesn't matter. Now this is not something that I do on a regular basis, I couldn't and wouldn't run my business that way, but the idea of pushing myself on occasion is something that has always worked for me so I can't see myself changing that now.

It's interesting how we choose to motivate ourselves: I wrote this late in the evening on a Sunday night for a blog post Monday morning and I wouldn't have it any other way!
